On Feb. 9, the Quaker Valley Pep Band left all of their tunes on the court following the final regular season buzzer at the boys basketball game. The band consists of musicians from grades 8-12 who are unified by the common interest of enhancing basketball games with catchy songs and rhythms to keep the audience, and the players, on their toes and “in the zone.”
This year, the Pep Band was under the leadership of head director Evan James, assistant director Joey Rozday, percussion director Reagan Eichert and assistant percussion director Dylan Davenport.
Before each basketball game, the band meets and rehearses a variety of show tunes and percussive jigs that they see fit for the present instrumentalistists. “[The Pep Band is an] inclusive environment that serves as a place where any level of energy and engagement can be displayed,” James said.
Creating a community of individuals united in the similar interest of music assists in forming friendships that will last throughout one's high school career. In addition to providing an introduction to the general music community at QV, the Pep Band gives young musicians insight to the sense of community that is the foundation of the Quaker Valley Marching Band.
Musicians of all levels and experiences are encouraged to participate in Pep Band to expand their horizons and support the basketball teams as they fight for wins throughout the winter season. This year’s Pep Band season has now come to a close, but the group is always looking for new members to take part in next year’s season.
