On Feb. 7 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Quaker Valley Student Council hosted its annual winter formal for all students from grades 9-12. The special event was held in the high school's decorated gymnasium.
Purple, green, and yellow streamers hung around as the hired DJ kept the dance floor lively with different high-energy songs. The winter formal planning committee embraced the colorful theme of “Mardi Gras,” even providing beaded necklaces and other fun accessories for students to feel a part of the theme.
The annual event is a great way for students to decompress during a dark, dreary time of the year. “I would recommend future high schoolers to join because I think it is a fun event to go to in the middle of the winter stress,” junior Eleanor Gracet said. “Not a lot of people go, and I think it would be more enjoyable if more students went.”
Before entering the gymnasium, a colorful backdrop, sticking to the theme of Mardi Gras, provided a way for the students to capture the exciting moment by taking fun pictures with their friends. Accessories like hats, feathered scarves and colorful beads were available on a table by the backdrop. Students queued in a line to take their pictures with the unique backdrop. In the cafeteria, there were snacks such as chips and water provided for the students. “I liked the Mardi Gras theme, but I think we should've had Mardi Gras food!” Gracet joked.
