One of multiple new clubs started this year, the Lit Club—led by junior Madeline Horton—is off to a strong start. “I started the lit club to read and discuss books with people who love it as much as I do,” Horton said. They meet once a month in Ms. Marasia’s room, typically at the end or beginning of the month, and members have read a total of four books so far. These include “We Were Liars,” “Stepsister,” “Late Night at the Telegraph Club” and “Five Total Strangers.” Currently, they are on their fifth book this year: “Thursday Murder Club.”
Each session takes on a new discussion, exploring complexities in character and plot development. The Lit Club provides a way for students to share their subjective experiences about contemporary literature without having to worry about the formality and linearity of English class discussions. “It’s a good opportunity to bond over books, meet new people, and have good conversations in which we accept each other's differing opinions,” Fuener said. If you would be interested in joining the Lit Club on their next read, “Remember Me Gone” by Stacy Stokes, reach out to Horton at qv27hortonm@qvmail.org and join the fun.
